Part 36: The Champion and Fin

"There remains the Champion."

Oh crap.

"I should warn you, the Champion is far stronger than the Elite Four. Now, go on. Step through the doorway to your final battle."

*cries* I thought I was done...now I have to heal up and prepare for another battle?

Healed up, and starting off.

In the next room (which is all shiny and glowy and cool), Cynthia stood.

"Have you been keeping well? Thank you for Mt. Coronet. And for the Distortion World. I'm truly grateful. Together, you and your Pokemon overcame all the challenges you faced, however difficult. It means that you've triumphed over any personal weaknesses, too. The power you learned...I can feel it emanating from you."

(Must imagine crazy piano music all through this. Better yet, just listen to this: CLICK HERE).

"But that's enough talk. Let's get on with why you're here. As the Pokemon League Champion, I accept your challenge!"

Wait...She's the Champion? I thought it was gonna be Tim or something.

Her first Pokemon is a Spiritomb. I have Belle out, and Shadow Claw didn't do so much damage, so I send it to sleep. Waffle's up next. Waffle was able to get off a Flare Blitz, then Josh did Waterfall to kill it.

Next Pokemon is Roserade. Waffle would have been good for this, but, Oswald should do ok. Fly takes it out in one hit.

Next up I send out Starbit against Milotic. Thunder takes off a good chunk, but Mirror Coat takes out Starbit in one go. Bleh. I take out Sheldon, and it uses only Surf against me, so that gives me time to Revive and Heal my other Pokemon. Low health for Sheldon though.

Garchomp is next, and I'm told this is what I wanted Blizzard or an Ice move for. Was able to get a good hit on it, even froze it, but then it used a berry, and unthawed a second after. She withdrew it and sent out Lucario.

Lucario takes out Oswald. I had used his turn to heal up Waffle though. One Fire Blast faints it. The stupid Garchomp is next up.

It takes out Waffle, and I use Josh after Max Reviving. One Blizzard and it's left with a pixel. Earthquake takes me down to 2 HP. I go ahead and use Aqua Jet to faint it.

Togekiss is her last Pokemon. A bit of playing around with health, and Spark takes the last of its health.

Cynthia nodded. "That was excellent. Truly, an outstanding battle. You gave the support your Pokemon needed to maximize their power. And you guided them with certainty to secure victory. You have both passion and calculating coolness. Together, you and your Pokemon can overcome any challenge that may come your way."

I smile and look at my battle-worn team. She smiles and nods at them. "Those are the impressions I got from our battle. I'm glad I got to take part in the crowning of Sinnoh's new Champion! Come with me. We'll take the lift."

I step onto the lift behind her, and walk into the long hallway. Cynthia points to the doorway in front of us.

"The room ahead is the Hall of Fame."

Suddenly, I hear a voice behind us and see Rowan walking towards me.

"Donny! Your last battle was splendid!"

Cynthia waved. "Hello, Professor Rowan."

Rowan's eyebrow went up in that curious manner. "Hm! A child I enlisted for my Pokedex project has come this far. It's only natural that I come and witness the child's crowning glory." He stuttered. "Donny, I shouldn't call you a child anymore. You've grown into a real Champion!"

Cynthia giggled. "Professor, you still enjoy the enthusiasm kids bring to your research, don't you? Donny, step this way, please." She motioned to Rowan. "Please join us, Professor Rowan."

Rowan sighed and looked around the large room we entered. "It's been a long while since I last entered this room."

"If your last time here was when I became Champion, then yes, that would be quite a long time ago." Cynthia nods. She turned to me. "Donny, welcome to the Hall of Fame. Your names will be recorded for posterity here. What you are leaving are the memories of your adventure so far. It's time to record your names. You and your Pokemon. Remember, your Pokemon are partners that grew with you through many challenging battles. This machine will make a permanent record of your achievement."

88:40 was my total playtime through this fantastic game. As I see the credits roll, I think back on all the battles me and my Pokemon have been through.

My goal now is to catch the Legendary Pokemon left. I just need to get Mesprit, and now that new Pokemon will be available, try and catch them as well.

I started out with this game, not knowing much about Pokemon. I thought it would be somewhat boring, a little tedious, and just not my sort of game. Josh was able to show me otherwise. It's actually very strategic and thought-provoking, what with the whole plot of wanting to change the world and get rid of all spirit in the world. For a kid's game, it's very dark in some places, such as the creepy lab with the experiment that wasn't ever really explained.

It's nice to have a team to take through the whole game, and I look forward to doing so again in Black. I went to Toys R Us today and preordered both Black and White. I'm excited to pick that up on Sunday and see what new adventures await me.

Yeah, Pokemon is a little tedious at time, but the joy of exploration and such are very well-captured in this game.

I appreciate all of those who went along on this journey with me, and I hope to write a few things later on in this blog. I'm not going to do another text LP for a while, probably, because I'd like to really immerse myself into Black and what it has to offer, and not worry about capturing important text and such.

Thanks to all of you who read and enjoyed this Let's Play. See you on the other side of the controller.

Part 35: The Elite Four

So, now it's just a game of "Train that Pokemon!". This is where you go around, trying to find somewhat high-leveled stuff that you can kill in one go, holding a Lucky Egg, and hoping that you get more than 500 XP off of something at a time.

I've got everyone up to 55-57 and I'm ready to take on the Elite Four.

Josh has advised that I should teach an ice move to someone, so I taught Blizzard to Josh the Floatzel. Sheldon has better special attack, but he also has better regular moves.

Okay...I've put it off long enough. I have my type chart in front of me, I've saved...I think I'm ready.

I walked up to the guard, and she held out her hand for my Trainer Card. "Let me confirm that you are qualified to challenge the Pokemon League." She read off the list of badges I've collected.

Oreburgh City's Coal Badge
Eterna City's Forest Badge
Hearthome City's Relic Badge
Veilstone City's Cobble Badge
Pastoria City's Fen Badge
Canalave City Mine Badge
Snowpoint City's Icicle Badge
Sunyshore City's Beacon Badge

She smiled and handed my card back to me. "Very well! Trainer, you've indeed collected all the Gym Badges of Sinnoh! Demonstrate the power that brought you here and go for glory!"

SAVE.

I stepped into the door behind her, and went up a small elevator.

The first room holding an Elite was decorated with grass and rocks, so I'm putting Waffle first. I'm going into all of these with no prior knowledge of what they have or what types they are.

I spoke to the person in the middle of the room. He crossed his arms and grinned. "Hello! Welcome to the Pokemon League! I'm Aaron of the Elite Four. It's good to meet you. Oh, I should explain, I'm a huge fan of bug Pokemon. But Pokemon are nasty-mean, and yet they're beautiful too. Would you like to know why I take on challengers here? It's because I want to become perfect, just like my bug Pokemon!"

Good luck becoming perfect. You'll be working on that until the end of your life.

And thus, the battle begins. His first Pokemon he sends out is Yanmega, a beastly-looking dragonfly.

One Fire Blast takes it down in one go.

His next Pokemon is Vespiquen. Another Fire Blast, but it doesn't kill it in one shot, so I try a stomp, and that takes it down the rest of the way.

Heracross is next. I'll keep spamming Fire Blast for now. One shot again.

Next is Scizor.

I hope Waffle can take it out. Woo-hoo, another one-hit kill.

Drapion is funky weird looking. Got it down to about half health. Flare Blitz takes it out the rest of the way.

Aaron dipped his head in defeat. "I lost with the most beautiful bug-types. We lost because I wasn't good enough. That's it! Back to training camp! Let's hear it for me! No...that was wrong...anyway...go on to the next room! Three Trainers are waiting for you. They're all tougher than me."

I continue onwards, congratulating Waffle for a job well done. The next room is decorated with rocks, so I'll put Sheldon first.

I approach my next challenge.

"Well, well. You're quite the adorable Trainer, but you've also got a spine." She grinned and laughed. "Ahaha! I'm Bertha. I have a preference for Ground-type Pokemon. Well, would you show this old lady how much you've learned?"

Her first Pokemon is Whiscash, which is a Ground/Water type from what I remember. It looks electric/ground though. Earth Power is super-effective against me, but doesn't kill me, and I'm able to get in another Surf against it.

I'll keep Sheldon in for now. Hippowdon is next, but a heal is in order. And then it Earthquakes me, bringing me down to only 36 HP. I can't really risk a death this early on, so I'm gonna switch to Oswald. It almost kills me with Stone Edge, but I'm able to get in three Shadow Balls on it.

Golem is next, so I switch back to Sheldon and heal up.

Damn Earthquake. I can't keep healing up, and I need to switch back to Oswald. I'll take a gamble that maybe it'll do Earthquake against Oswald, and switch to it.

NOPE. Fire Punch, and it was a critical hit. So, I'm going to switch to Josh.

One Waterfall takes it down.

Gliscor is next, and it's a creepy bat thing. I use another Watrerfall, and it brings it to half. It does Earthquake, but I think I can outspeed it and do another Waterfall to faint it. Down goes Gliscor.

Next up is Rhyperior, and even though I healed, it does Earthquake and kills me. And it kills off Sheldon too, so I send in Starbit so I can heal up Oswald. This is worth a Max Revive.

I send oswald back in and throw some Shadow Balls at it...and then it uses Avvalanche, but doesn't kill me. I heal up again, another Shadow Ball, and then it has a pixel of life left, and the kills me.

I do a simple Body Slam with Belle, and kill it off, thus winning me the match.

Bertha nodded. "You're quite something, youngster. I like how you and your Pokemon earned the win by working as one. That's what makes you so strong. Ahahaha! I think that you can go as far as you want."

Massive heal time.

After healing up my team, I go into the next chamber, where I recognize Flint. Fire decorates the room, so it looks like I'll be going with water again, as long as there isn't an overabundance of Earthquake. Ice moves might do something, not sure. Logically, and by normal RPG standards they should, but Pokemon is a bit weird with their RPG rules.

"Yo, Trainer!" Flint interrupts my thoughts. "You had me counting the days on my fingers waiting for you to come. I heard from Volkner what you did in Sunyshore. You managed to light a fire in that guy's heart again. How could you not expect me to look forward to seeing you in battle?"

Flint's hair is awesome, by the way.

Houndoom is first, and Sheldon pulls out ahead with a quick surf and faints it.

Infernape is next, but he outspeeds me and pulls off an Eerthquake, miraculously not killing me, and my Surf hits and faints it.

A heal is in order, and I hope Magmortar doesn't have Earthquake.

Nope, but it has thunderbolt. And it criticals.

Okay, Josh, you be next. And Blizzard does absolutely nothing against it. And it kills me.

Okay, Belle. I use Hypnosis on it, and it falls asleep. I use the oportunity to heal Sheldon. I get in a Body Slam before it kills me, and I send in Sheldon and do a Surf on it, fainting it.

I keep Sheldon in, and it sends in a Flareon. I abuse Surf once more, and faint it in one hit. Rapidash is next, and I do the same thing. It doesn't kill it in one go, but it misses it's attack, and I get in another one.

"I'm blown away by this, you and your Pokemon are hot stuff!" Flint raised an eyebrow. "Whew...burnt right down to cinders."

I heal up my team, and go into the next room.

The last room...I can't figure out what sort of type. It's dark, so perhaps Ghost or Dragon. I think Ice is good against Dragon, so I'll put in Josh first.

"I've just finished reading a book, you see. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Lucian. I am a user of the Psychic type. I must say, you've already proven yourself to be outstanding by coming this far. They say I am the toughest of the Elite Four. I'm afraid I will have to go all out against you to live up to that reputation."

I wouldn't have it any other way. Bring it on.

And...out comes a Mr. Mime first. Okay, Oswald then.

Thunderbolt? Dang it. It doesn't kill me, so I throw a Shadow Ball against it, but I risk it again without healing, and it outspeeds me. I bring out Belle to do a Faint Attack on it.

Gallade is next, and I do another Faint Attack, but it does nothing, and it does a Drain on me. A Shadow Claw attack brings it down a bit, but then it kills Belle. I bring out Starbit to do a Crunch. Brings it down pretty far, and one more Crunch should do it. It's Psycho Cut doesn't doo too much against Starbit, and I faint it easily.

Brozong is next, so I take out Waffle again to do a Flare Blitz and faint it in one hit. Still hate the recoil, but it isn't terrible.

Espeon is next...I think it's psychic, but I'll keep going with Waffle with another Flare Blitz and see what happens. Almost kills it, one pixel left on it's HP. Starbit can finish it off.

If it hadn't used a Full Restore. Geat.

But no worries, Crunch is a one-hit faint, so that's awesome. Alakazam is next, so I'll heal up and see what it dishes out on Starbit. Psychic and Energy Ball, it outspeeded me.

I need to revive four team members now, and Josh and Sheldon are left. I send out Josh to use Blizzard. AND IT FLINCHES AWESOME. Another Waterfall takes it down.

I have defeated the Elite Four.

I defeated them!

"Congratulations. You've now beaten the Elite Four. However, that doesn't mean you're done with the Pokemon League."

I blink. What.

Part 34: Victory Road and More Black/White Thoughts

And thus, we've made it to Victory Road and the Pokemon League. The Victory Road was long and winding, but not too terrible.

And I see my first view of the Pokemon League building. It's been a long journey, but I finally made it.

I healed up my Pokemon, and went to talk to the person guarding the Elite Four. At least they are actually GUARDING the door this time. When I played ShinyGold with Josh, it was the first time I had actually been to the Elite Four building, and I saw a rather large conspicuous door, and I happily wandered into it without healing or anything, thinking that perhaps it's another part of the building.

It was the Elite Four and I was all like....nuuuuuu.

So, I somewhat appreciate the addition of a guard.

"Hold it! Don't go off without me!" I heard the familiar spastic cries of Tim behind me.

"You're challenging the Pokemon League, aren't you? That's why I'm here, too. Let's see who's more worthy of making the challenge with a battle!"

A bit of a close call with some of his Pokemon, but we won out in the end.

Tim sighed. "I guess I'm not ready for the Pokemon League if I'm losing to you! Darn it! You watch, though! I'll get tougher and win my way through the Pokemon League! Because I'm going to become the Champion, the toughest Trainer! Donny! You better not lose to anyone before me!" He grinned and ran off, probably to train his Pokemon up a bit more.

-----------------------------

Anyway, the next post will probably be the Elite Four themselves, details about what Pokemon and such they use. I'm going to level up probably to 60 before entering into the final battles.

I'm going to do a very late pre-order on Black tomorrow at Gamestop. The Black/White games come out on Sunday, so I hope to at least be done with the Elite Four on this game before that one. I probably won't get started on Black for a while, but knowing me, I can't resist a new game.

My starter is going to be Oshawott. I don't know if I'm going to evolve it to the third form or not. I like the way it looks, but the second form is interesting.

I'm hoping Purrloin/Liepard will be okay, because I like the way they look (purple is one of my favorite colours), but it might not fit right with me once I try them out.

I might give Tirtouga/Carracosta a try, they're interesting-looking. The first form is cuter than the second, but the second isn't dumb-looking.

Deerling/Sawsbuck is probably a for sure, since it's so cute.

And since everyone picks on Klink, I want to have it on my team. It needs more love. And I think it's cool.

Litwick/Lampent/Chandelure is just awesome.

Deino comes in late in the game I'm told. I really want to use it, but I'm not sure I'll want to give up a member of my team to use it. If it did come down to it, perhaps Carracosta or Deerling could go, but I'm usually the type to stick to a team. You find it on FREAKIN VICTORY ROAD, so I'm not sure. I'll be getting one for post-game most likely though. The third form is just creepy to me though, so I'll keep it at it's second evolution, Zweilous.

I still like Zekrom more then Reshiram, but, Josh is getting White, so...bleh. Ah well.

Part 33: Final Badge

I leveled everyone up to level 50, then took on the Sunyshore Gym. When I entered the city, Flint from the Pokemon League stopped me and told me about the city's Gym Leader, Volkner. Appaerently, Volkner has had a bad streak of terrible battles, but not because he's lost, because he's won. He wants a good challenge, and Flint thinks that I'm the one to do that.

The Gym is a confusing mess of buttons and switches, but I eventually got through it.

My team was chewed pretty thoroughly by Volkner, but Starbit won out over his Luxray. All in all, a very good battle.

"Hehehe." Volkner chuckled when we were through battling. "That was the most fun I've had in a battle since...I don't know when!" A big smile was on his face. "It's also made me excited to know you and your team will keep battling to greater heights. This is your eighth Gym Badge. You've earned this!" He handed me the Beacon Badge and explained that I can now use Waterfall outside of battle. And that move happens to be key if I'm going to the Pokemon League. He also gives me TM57 (Charge Beam).

After exiting the Gym, I headed north to find the way to the Pokemon League.

"Hey! Donny!" Tim came up behind me. "What the...you went and got all eight Gym Badges of Sinnoh! Aww, you...that's wicked! I envy you! But don't think you've won! Because I'm going to be the toughest Trainer ever! You watch me! Before I was dreaming. I just wanted to be like my dad. Now, things are different. I thought about what being a Trainer involves. I thought about what Pokemon are. We're going to get tougher one step at a time! I'm not going to challenge you to a battle now. I hate to say it, but I know you're tougher than me. But not a whole lot tougher, just a little. Our difference is about a yard? Nah, not even an inch." He coughed. "What I'm trying to say is that I will catch up to you in no time. If you don't hurry to the Pokemon League, I'll leave you in my wake!"

Jasmine, a girl who was standing nearbye walked up to me when Tim ran off. "Was that your friend?"

I nodded and apologized for his spasticness.

She smiled. "Seeing how you two got along made me happy somehow. It must be wonderful having a friend like that. A person that you can share anything and everything with. A person you can compete with without fighting. Um...it made me feel sort of warm seeing you two. It may seem odd, but I'd like you to have this as my thanks. This isn't much, but..." She handed me HM07 (Waterfall). "If you use it, you can get to the Pokemon League. Good luck."

I nodded and shook her hand.

Onward we go.

Part 32: Distortion World

Cynthia and I looked around. "This place. Can you feel it? There are no Pokemon here at all."

Can't say I've ever actually FELT the presence of Pokemon, but she probably knows more than I do. No tall grass, that's a start.

"Time isn't flowing. And space isn't stable."

That can't be good.

"A world where the rules are broken. A space one might call the Distortion World."

Copyright Cynthia.

"Let's find Giratina. We need it to stop the spreading distortion at the Spear Pillar."

Suddenly the giant shadow flies overhead, giving a single cry as it passes.

Cynthia shuddered. "That was...Giratina! We have to hurry! If something's not done, the distortion will swallow not only our world, it will overwhelm the Distortion World."

Okay. So. Recap.

I start out just wanting to get to the final Gym, end up on a wild rollercoaster ride with the Galactic Grunts, and my Rapidash is stuck in the other world. Great. Stuck with a grass instead of a fire. An HM slave at that.

SIIIIIGGGGGH.

I walk forward, and see that this place is filled with floating platforms and weird sideways walkways. Cynthia was ahead, and she pointed to a spot on the floating platform. "It seems if you stand on certan, it moves."

I stepped on a darker spot on the floor, and the platform shifted downwards. Cynthia eyed her surroundings. "Will we get to see Giratina if we keep going down? In the Distortion World, are we really travelling downward?"

I left Cynthia to contemplate, and I explored a bit farther on. SUddenly, Mesprit showed up in front of me, and floated upwards.

------------------

This place is freakin' awesome. 3D graphics and walking sideways in this game is really cool. Josh told me that the Black and White towns use the 3d stuff too, so that should be interesting to see.

------------------

Cynthia caught up with me while I was exploring the platforms. "The Legend of Giratina has been all but forgotten but to a few. The legend of a world on the other side of ours. This world. Why does this world exist? Why is Giratina here all alone? There's so much that can't be explained, but we have things to do. Let's split up. We have to find the right way."

Split up? In a DISTORTION World? Don't think that would be the smartest thing to do, but oh well.

After another half hour of wandering around, and I ran into Cyrus. He seemed stunned, and just stood there, staring at his surroundings. He said to me in a quiet voice, "...The shadowy Pokemon isn't here. It abandoned me here, then disappeared somewhere farther down. Was it content merely to interfere with my plan?"

Most likely, considering you want to destroy the world.

"Incidentally," Cyrus continued, "do you understand the concept of genes?"

I blinked. Well, that was a bit out of left field. Nothing like standing in an empty void of floating platforms in a Distortion World and being asked about genes.

"Yes, I understand the basic concept of genes." I said.

Cyrus raised his eyebrows. "If it's true, you've impressed me. Genes can be considered the blueprints of all life-forms. That includes humans and Pokemon alike. Genes are contained in a DNA strand. A DNA strand consists of two chains of opposing characteristics in a spiral. If one of the chains were to be broken, the other could replicate it. One or the other cannot exist without its opposite."

He started to pace, and his voice became more urgent. "Do you understand where I am going with this? This is a bizarre world. Time doesn't flow. Space isn't stable. Only that shadowy Pokemon lives here. This world is the opposite of our world--our world I wish to change."

He gestulated wildly. "It is like the two chains composing a strand of DNA. The two worlds must be balancing each other to remain in existence. Without the one the other cannot exist. The shadowy Pokemon must play a role in keeping the worlds in balance."

He walked closer, a wild look in his eyes. "That is why it must have interfered and brought me here. The shadowy Pokemon must have made this bizarre world. That's why trying to change our world disturbed it and made it reveal itself. But that is all irrelivent. What matters is defeating that Pokemon and making this world disappear. I won't allow it to interfere with me again. With it gone, neither world will be able to revert to its original state." He turned, mumbling to himself.

I watched him go, a sad confused state of a man.

There was a strange puzzle with boulders and pushing them into pits. Yeah, I don't get it either. Rite of Passage I guess, I dunno.

"I understand they can keep balance against either Palkia or Dialga." Cynthia came up behind me. "Does it mean they can't do that with Giratina? But, this is no time for idle chitchat."

We traveled downwards more, and Cynthia pointed. "Giratina is up ahead."

Suddenly Cyrus came out of nowhere and Cynthia startled. "So...you were already here. Why do you seek to change the world? If you hate our world, you should just go off somewhere alone. Find somewhere where you can live without seeing others."

Cyrus huffed. "Why should I run and hide from the world and have to wait quietly? My aim is to rid our world of the vague and incomplete thing we call spirit. My aim is to rid our world of the vague and incomplete thing we call spirit. By freeing ourselves of that, our world can be made complete. That is my justice! No one can interfere!"

I bring out a Pokeball, and do a dramatic pose. Cyrus narrowed his eyes. "I won't lose! Not to that shadowy Pokemon! Not in any worthless world!

He brought out a Pokeball and threw it out.

One struggling fight later and Cyrus knelt to the floor, defeated. "I won't accept this! This can't be! Not after all the sacrifices we've made to get this far! What of my new world?! Of my new galaxy?! Was this all a dream to be swept away by your reality?"

I ignored him, going straight for Giratina. He wasn't too terrible, I caught him on my second Dusk Ball.

Cynthia appeared once more. I hadn't seen her all through the Giratina fight. "Giratina seems to have understood us! That Pokemon...you captured it?!"

Cyrus glared at me. "Your doing so means this irrational world will remain in existence! Does that make it impossible for me to create a new world? Even if I made new Red Chains, the new world can't be made! Why?! What compels you to protect the two worlds? Is spirit, a vague and incomplete thing, so important to you?!"

Cynthia put a hand on his shoulder sympathetically. "...The places we are born. The time we spend living. The languages we speak. We are all different. But the presence of Pokemon unites us. We share our lives with our Pokemon, and our happiness grows as we all become greater than we were alone. That is why we can battle and trade with anyone we choose."

"SILENCE!" Cyrus screamed. "Enough of your blathering. That's how you justify spirit as something worthwile?! That is merely humans hoping, deluding themselves that they are happy and safe! The emotions rolling inside me. Rage, hatred, frustration. These ugly emotions arise because of my own incomplete spirit! Enough. We will never see eye to eye. This, I promise you. I will break the secrets of the world. With that knowledge, I will create my complete and perfect world. One day, you will awaken to a world of my creation. A world without spirit." Cyrus turned and walked away.

He seems to do that alot.

Cynthia shook her head. "Since there is sadness, we can feel joy. When there is anger, compassion is born. Let's go back home. The portal where Giratina was will take us home. Giratina was written in legend as being on the other side of our world. It stands to reason that it has a link to the other side."

Cyntha and I appeared near a wall, and in grass and flowers. Cynthia's eyes widened. "This place?! It's the Sendoff Spring...it's said to somehow lead to the greatest beyond. And Giratina was said to live in a world on the opposite side of ours. Oh! I'm sincerly sorry! It's very rude of me! Donny, you're incredible! You really are a fantastic Trainer! Thank you so much! On behalf of all of Sinnoh!" She grinned. "Oh! You have to go tell Prof. Rowan! He was very worried about you. You should visit him at his lab.

I caught my breath for a few minutes, just enjoying the quiet of the air, and the cool breeze on my face. The Distortion World had been one unsettling even after another. I had caught a mythical Pokemon, and my team had done well. We had also stopped the world from being taken over by a psychopathic man. Rowan did need to be told, though.

Oswald flew me to Sandgem town, and I walked into the lab. Rowan and Dawn rushed over to me and had me sit down.

"Donny! You've come back!" Rowan cried happily. "You leave me speechless! You've done it! You really have done it! Never has my heart pounded this hard for so long in my 60 years of living!"

Dawn patted the Professor's shoulder. "He did alot of checking up after you left. He was really worried about you, Donny. He contacted acquantances looking for help, and..." She gave me a big hug. "I'm glad to see you safe! Welcome back!"

Rowan lifted a finger. "Oh, yes, there was something I had to tell you. The three Pokemon of the lakes appear to have returned to their homes. So tell me. How are things going for you? The Pokedex? Ah, a total of 168! And the number of badges? Well! You've got seven already! That only leaves Sunyshore's Gym. Hm! You've come this far. Why not obtain Sunyshore's Badge? And why not challenge the Pokemon league? That will broaden your horizons further than ever before. Not to mention the opportunities to meet even more Pokemon."

Whew, let's head to Sunyshore!

Part 31: No Death Ray, But Other Fun Stuffs

"I see. You are indeed strong."

Cyrus's last Pokemon had been going strong, but Waffle brought it down finally.

"And the basis of your power is your compassion toward Pokemon."

You better not talk for forever.

"How wasteful. Such emotions are but mere illusions. And, like all illusions, they fade over time until death banishes them forever. That is why I have abandoned all emotions as useless sentimentality." He shook his head. "But that doesn't matter. I doubt you will ever understand my position."

You are going to talk forever, aren't you?

"That said, I recoginize that you are strong and courageous to come alone. This is your reward."

He held out his hand and dropped the Master Ball into it.

"The Master Ball is the ultimate Pokeball. It will unfailingly catch any Pokemon in the wild. But it is not anything I require. Unlike you Trainers, I do not make Pokemon my friends or partners. Unlike other Team Galactic members, I don't use Pokemon as tools. Instead, I make the power of Pokemon my own." He began to walk away, but then turned to look back at me.

"if you wish to save the Pokemon from the lakes, take the warp panel ahead. I am off to Mt. Coronet. I will ascend the mountain to its peak where destiny awaits me. It is there that I will create my new world.

I took the warp pad and landed in a very creepy lab.

The scientist there looked worried. "I feel awful about what we did. This experiment went too far."

What experiment? There are things suspended in green fluid around the room...but...

"I'm not sure if I can stomach what Master Cyrus plans. I feel too sickened to say anything. But that thing we made. What is it going to be used for?"

A bit odd.

In the next room, Uxie was being held in some sort of container. It appeared to be suffering, with eyes squeezed shut.

YA KNOW FOR KIDS.

Two people were in the room. One was Saturn, and he turned to see me standing there. "You, you came all the way here just to save some Pokemon? Though it's nothing new, I can't say I understand our boss. Why would he let a kid like you come and go freely? We, Team Galactic, take all that we need, and eliminate what we do not."

What is it with these guys and monologues?

"But, anyway. You've taken the trouble to come. Let me welcome you! Consider it payback for your insulting me at the lake."

OHHAI BATTLE.

Another quick battle later.

"Gah! What makes you so tough?" He grumbled. "Fine. Do whatever you want with those three Pokemon. Press the button on that machine to set them free."

I rush in and press the button, setting the Pokemon free.

Saturn grumbled. "Our boss crafted a Red Chain from crystals he took from the three Pokemon. That Red Chain is what he needed to chackle something on Mt. Coronet. It's also apparently needed for creating something. But that's all I know. Who knows what he's planning to do up there."

Giant ray gun of death most likely.

Finally reached the top of the mountain. More grunts. Whee.

And at the top of the mountain, before I could reach Cyrus, Mars and Jupiter were ready to take me on. However, Tim joined in the battle and REFUSED TO HEAL ANY OF HIS POKEMON. OH. MY. GOD.

HEAL YOUR POKEMON.

Then, after the battle, which was made more difficult by the COMPLETE LACK OF HEALING on his part, he healed our Pokemon.

*sigh*

Okay, onto Cyrus, who I know is going to talk for four years.

AND THEN TIM JUST LEAVES.

THANKS. I APPRECIATE IT.

Cyrus just stood there, and I kinda wondered what he was thinking while I battled his two goons behind him this whole time.

"Everything is ready for the creation of a new world."

Death ray. Please. Gotta be.

"Now, all will end. And everything will begin."

Makes no sense. Please continue.

"With this, the Red Chain made from the crystals of the three lake Pokemon..."

And I'm suddenly reminded of Skies of Arcadia where the whole team is in the desert place with the same exact type of terrain, about to raise up a giant red Giga (monster thing).

Cyrus continues talking. "And this, the Red Chain I replicated with technological means...with these Red Chains I will pry open the portal to another dimention."

...why? Why do you want to do this?

"I command that you unleash your power for me."

RED SHINY STUFFS.

"Dialga, the mythical Pokemon and the master of time!" Cyrus shouts. "And the other."

Other?

"Palkia, the mythical Pokemon, and the master of space and dimensions."

And I feel compelled to stand here and just let him talk. Why can't I just attack him now? Nah, just want to hear the end of this speech.

Describing giant black balls of space is somewhat difficult, so I'll just leave to your imagination. Anyway, Giant Black Balls of Space came out of nowhere, and then suddenly Dialga and Palkia showed up.

Cyrus grinned. "I've waited so long for this moment, Dialga and Palkia. Shaping this world is a double spiral of time and space. Yes, the very things that you have the ability to control! You will do my bidding! I will have your abilities as mine!"

Dunno if it's so smart to talk to two legendary creatures and demand their powers for yourself.

Cyrus obviously doesn't think this. "With the power I weild, I will create an entirely new world!"

If it just controles TIME...how is he going to create a new world other than just going somewhere else in time, or starting from the very beginning of space and time...oh...that does kinda makes sense. Maybe.

"The incomplete and ugly world we have now can disappear."

And I'm still standing here, just waiting for him to be done. I SHOULD attack...but...nah.

"I'm resetting everything to zero. Nothing can remain. It is all for making the ultimate world. A world of complete perfection. Nothing so vague and incomplete as spirit can remain."

Well then.

Suddenly, shiny yellow, pink, and blue balls of light show up overhead. Cyrus and I look up and he doesn't seem too fazed.

"I should have expected as much. Uxie, the Being of Knowledge. Azelf, the Being of Willpower. Mesprit, the Being of Emotion. The Pokemon have come to protect Sinnoh? Pathetic and worthless. It takes the three of them, the three lake Pokemon that symbolize spirit, to balance either the Pokemon of time or space. But they can't maintain balance against the two. Not when both Dialga and Palkia are here. Their coming here is in vain. So much meaningless drama."

Coming from the guy who shouts dramatically.

Cyrus turns to me, and the music stops. Wait.

"Now, Donny. You've constantly interfered with my plans, but you will be forgiven. After all, there will remain no spirit for all time when I am done."

So what happens to him?

"All spirit will disappear. It will be ripped away."

He needs a telepromter.

"From you! From your Pokemon! From those precious to you! It is time! My dream will be my realty!"

And then, something goes blech.

Cyrus squinted. "What is this pressure I feel? Something...is enraged?"

Propably the script writers.

BLAGHOLE.

Fuzzy Monster of Doom rises out of the floor. And Cyrus backs up and just says "interesting".

WHY AM I JUST STANDING HERE?!

"So, there is a Pokemon that can only appear as a shadow. Regardless the effort is rash and foolish. I have harnessed the powers of Dialga and Palkia."

Oh have you now?

And then STROKE and Cyrus dissapears from the fuzzy monster of doom. So...no Giant Death Ray I assume now.

And then Cynthia is here.

"No!"

The three balls of light dissapear into this swirly vortex thing, but Mesprit appears briefly in front of me before going back into the vortex.

"I'm sorry I took so long." Cynthia said, out of breath. "I think I finally found the answer from studying the myths. When this world was made, Dialga and Palkia appeared. Apparently, there was one more Pokemon that appeared at the same time. A Pokemon with as much power as Dialga and Palkia. But also one whose name was never to be spoken--GIRATINA!"

Pause for dramatic effect. And to notice the pillars around us bending and distorting.

Cynthia continues. "It's said to lurk in another world. A world on the opposite side of ours. That's what the shadow was. It must have been Giratina. The pillars are distorting. It's because of that portal. It's joined us to the other world. If it's not closed, the distortion will spread to Sinnoh and beyond."

Tons of peanut butter and marshmallows. Should do the trick.

"Our world will be destroyed. Are you ready? We have to chase Cyrus!"

Well duh.

"We have to hurry!"

And then, we were sucked into another time and place.

Part 30: Regeneration of the World Obligatory Monologues

--------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, I'm trying to finish up Platinum before I get Black.
--------------------------------------------------------------

The headquarters of Galactic were a little bit imposing, but I had determination. I only needed one more badge to face the Elite Four.

A grunt outside of the building smirked at me. "There! Would you look at those antennae?" He pointed to the huge satellites. "I don't know what they do, but those are some mighty impressive antennae." He looked at me closer. "Hey, it's you! I bet you don';t remember me, but I sure remember you! Because of you, they took my Clefairy away...my partner called it quits and went back to his old country." He teared up a little. "I know nothing. I don't know anything about any Storage Key!" He let out a huge sob and ran off.

I blinked. I felt a little bad. I didn't want to hurt anyone, I was trying to keep people from being hurt.

My thoughts were interrupted with Looker running up to me. "You leave this to me!"

Don't introduce yourself or say hi or anything.

"The Storage Key for entering the Team Galactic hideout, I have right here. A frontal assault, it is not possible. But we can enter their hideout. Will you enter the hideout? You have your reasons, yes?"

I gave a sharp, determined nod.

Looker smiled. "Very well. Inside the Team Galactic warehouse. We will meet there. Prepare the best you can. I shall join you shortly."

I got a quick heal-up at the local Pokecenter, then headed for the warehouse. Looker joined me pretty soon.

"I will use this Storage Key I have obtained from the Team Galactic." He placed the key into the lock, and it gave an odd 'ker-chunk' noise. The doors opened easily. Looker nodded. "I will go on ahead, my friend. Do not expose yourself to danger!"

A bit of wandering produced a Galactic Key, so I headed to the main warehouse.

Nothing interesting to speak of, until I see a report on a table. It's titled The Pokemon Statues of Eterna. I open it up and read it.

"Pokemon statue plate text no. 1 (from stolen plate): The creation of Dialga, the giver of time...In laughter, there is tears...and, likewise it is with time. The same time flows on. For it is the blessing of Dialga.

Pokemon statue plate text no. 2 (from stolen plate): The birth of Palkia. The creator of parallel dimensions...Alive, yet not alive. Everything drifts in space. To arrive in the same universe. It is the blessing of Palkia. The blue text has been extracted using a high-tech device made by the boss."

I set the report down. What was with the random blue text?

More wandering and I finally found Looker, and a giant crowd of people. A projector was on, and a video of the Galactic symbol showed. Cyrus walked out and announced.

"Fellow members of Team Galactic! Hear me! My name, as I appear to you today, is Cyrus. This world of ours is a crude one. In a word, it is incomplete. It has been, and always will be, a struggle to survive in this world. We humans and Pokemon are likewise incomplete. Because we are all so lacking, we fight, we maim. It is ugly. I hate the incompleteness. That we are all incomplete, I hate it with my entire body and being. The world should be complete. The world must change."

He walked out from behind the mic, and shouted. "Then, who will change it? Me, Cyrus! And Team Galactic. Yes, all of you! Together we pored over myths and exposed their secrets! TOGETHER we captured legendary Pokemon!"

He rose a fist. "And now, Team Galactic has obtained the energy to change the world! The power of dreams is within our grasp! Understand it, fellow members! My long-held dreamworld is on the verge of becoming realty. All those headed to Mt. Coronet, and those who remain here. Though our missions may differ, our hearts beat as one. Let there be glory for Team Galactic!"

A loud roar went up from the crowd. Cries of Master Cyrus is the greatest were heard.

Cyrus gazed out over the crowd and walked back into the portal behind him, dissapearing with the screams and yells. After he went, the crowd dissapated and Looker sighed.

"So, that was Cyrus, the boss of the Team Galactic. Quite the performance, no? Mesmerizing for one only 27 years old. But to make a world for Team Galactic and none other? It is preposterous. So uch so that it makes my head spin. A new world? What is that? And what is this incomplete world? Very well. To investigate such matterse is the job of the International Police. Of which I am a member in good stead. And it is my job, therefore. We shall part ways here. Take extra care, my friend!"

Looker took a LOOK around and sped off to do whatever Looker does in his spare time.

I keep making my way to the top of the building to find Cyrus. I needed to see what all this was about.

I step through a door into a room with the most awesome sparkly walls. Cyrus was standing in front of a table. He turned when I entered the room.

"So you've come. You heard my speech, I take it."

And I was not very impressed. Long winded. But I must say, he does have charisma. Just like a politician.

"A big lie of course." He snickered. "It's true insofar as my intention is to create a new world. But that world isn't for the likes of Team Galactic.

Yep, exactly like a politician.

"I seek an entirely new world solely for myself. If not, it could never be the complete and perfect world. You've seen my minions of Team Galactic. You yourself must know that they are uniformly useless and incomplete." He stepped forward and looked me in the eye. "I know why you're here. I can sense it in you. It's about Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf, correct? You want to save them. I no longer have any need for them. I am finished with them. If your heart aches to save them, go right ahead. I couldn't care less. It will save me the trouble of disposing of them."

He eyed me up and down. "But, I must say, you are a remarkable specimen. Those Pokemon have nothing to do with you, do they? But still you came to rescue them out of pity? Such pitifully useless emotions...it's illogical and irrationals. Pity and compassion are products of the weak and faulty human heart. You were compelled to come here by such vacuous sentimentality! I will make you regret paying heed to your heart!

SUDDEN BATTLE

Part 29: Magikarps and a Badge

A sad sight of flolloping Magikarps meet my eyes when I reach it. I beat a few Galactic Grunts here and there, then go into the cave nearbye. Galactic Commander Mars is standing there, and he says more nonsense about wanting to change the world, ect.

I defeat him easily.

Rowan found me after the battle and directed me to check on Tim at Lake Acuity.

Josh let me know I would need an HM slave with Defog, Strength, and Rock Smash. I took out my Tropius I caught and taught it all those, plus cut. Oswald can already fly, so that's no problem. I went ahead and stored Belle for now until I reach the city.

I run into snow very quickly outside of the Mt. Coronet cave system. I trudge slowly through the snow, defeating a few trainers along the way and seeing a few new Pokemon, like Snover.

A small rest house is nearbye, so I head there, grateful to get in out of the blinding snow and wind.

THE FREAKIN' HAIL. OH MY GOD I GET IT ALREADY. WE'RE GOING TO BE BUFFETED BY THE HAIL. DO NOT HAVE TO TELL IT TO ME EVERY. SINGLE. TURN. JEEZ.

/rant.

I continue through the route, and suddenly, behind me, I hear a girl's voice.

"Donny!"

I turn and see Maylene run up to me. "Are you maybe on your way to Snowpoint City?"

Why else would I be trudging through this god-forsaken place?

I nod, and she smiles despit the cold. "That's where I'm going, too. If I use Fly, I can get there instantly, but I'm walking for my training."

Whoop-dee-do for you. I can't yet, but by god, the first chance I can, I'm flying there the rest of the time.

"I have no problem with this." She prattles on as we walk. "I'm used to the cold because I go barefoot and lightly dressed." Her nose scrunches, and she lets out a sneeze. "Oh...that was nothing, really, I'm not cold at all. I'll be going now, please take care!"

Wasn't that just the most useful conversation ever?

Snorunt is a funky Pokemon.

Much farther down the path, I come across another house with a Hiker inside. He's lost the HM for Rock Climb, but luckily, I had come across it before entering.

"I like your honesty, here, have this Icicle Plate, and you can keep the HM."

I glance at the writing engraved onto the plate. "The Original One breathed alone before the universe came."

Another half hour of slogging through, I come across a barely noticable cabin. I stop in, and the girl inside looked startled.

"...A person? A rare sight...thank you for visiting...a gift..."

Her hands trembled as she gave me a Spell Tag.

Finally, I reach a wall. Tim was standing at the top of the cliff, and he called down to me.

"Hey, what, you finally decided to come along now. Slooow! Way too slow. Listen, Donny," His voice got serious. "See how the rocks are all lumpy here?" He pointed to the trail on the side of the cliff. You can't climb those rocks until you get the Snowpoint Gym badge. Anyway, I'm off. Team Galactic! I'm coming for you!

So, I went and got the Gym badge. Wasn't terribly hard. Waffle was most valuable, and even Sheldon helped out quite a bit.

So, one quick climb later, I was at the top of the cliff and ready to enter into the lake front.

Tim was standing with the pink-haired Jupiter. "You're not getting away with this, Team Galactic!"

Jupiter crossed her arms. "Oh? Are you finished already? Your Pokemon aren't bad, but you're laughably weak. You honestly thought you could save the Pokemon of the lake? And become the Pokemon Champion? Dream on, little kid. But, eww, it's so cold here. Let's go back to the Veilstone HQ." She shoved past him and saw me standing there.

"Oh?" She raised her eyebrows. "Don't I know you? We met in Eterna City. Listen, Team Galactic is going to do something huge for everyone's sake. That's why you should keep out of Team Galactic's way. Don't come whining about poor Pokemon and other trivial junk like that. Don't waste your time coming to our HQ in Veilstone. Now, if you'll excuse me."

She left without another word.

Time walked up to stand next to me. I looked at him, and he looked away. "Yeah, that's right! I couldn't do anything against Team Galactic! That Pokemon called Uxie. It was suffering. I'm going to get tougher. It's not about winning or losing. That's not good enough. I have to be stronger. It's not enough to just want to be the most powerful Trainer ever...It takes honest effort. And a determined heart."

I stayed silent. There was nothing to add to that really. He walked off leaving me at the lake. As I looked over the clear water, I reflected on what he had said.

It really wasn't about winning or losing at this point. Galactic needed to be stopped. Whatever they were doing couldn't be good for everyone. Explosions, stealing Pokemon...what else would they do to meet their ends?

I need to investigate back at Veilstone.
